If I were to tell you that you have the ability to create anything you want in life,
what would you want to….

Look at your current results in any specific area of your life and what do you see?

Do you perceive your results to be good or bad?

If you could have the results you REALLY want, what would that look like….and how would you create it?

Most people look at their current results in life and automatically assume these are just the cards they were dealt and there’s nothing they can do about it.

“He was just in the right place at the right time.”
“She’s so lucky!”
“I wish I could be like him.”

All of these statements carry with them a belief – the belief that some people are just destined to succeed, while others are doomed to mediocrity or failure. This belief robs us of the power we have to create the life we truly want and hands it over to something or someone else.

We have all of the power we will ever need within us. We simply need to become aware of what we need to do in order to tap into it.

You have the power to...

There are three areas we need to address if we are to make positive, lasting improvements – in any and every area of life:

⇒ Our Beliefs

⇒ Our Actions

⇒ Our Results

I like to call this approach my

Personal & Professional Transformation Triad

(For all of you Star Wars fans, you can call it P2T2!)
This process is applicable to our personal lives, our professional lives, our social lives and yes, even our corporate cultures. Our beliefs, actions and results can be individual or those we form as a group.

The mind-set I discussed above where everything starts with our Results in life and simply perpetuates more of the same is only partially true. We need to be able to observe our current results and be completely honest with ourselves about them. Are they what we truly want or do we want something different?

Many of us convince ourselves that we’re happy with things just the way we are – that we don’t want anything different. However, what we say in conversation and what we know to be true if we were honest with ourselves doesn’t coincide with that statement.

We “wish” we could travel more. We “wish” we could pay off that loan or get a new car. We “wish” we had more time to spend with our friends or volunteer at the homeless shelter. We “wish” our lives away because deep down inside, we don’t actually believe we can have these things for one reason or another. (We’ll get into that later!)

The first step to improving any result is being completely honest with where we are.

That’s right, we need to own it! Understand that you are responsible for every result you get in your life…..but don’t misinterpret that to mean everything that happens to you is your fault! Events happen – that’s life and no matter what you believe about how or why events occur – whether you attract them, they “just happen” or everything is divinely designed – at the moment of the event there’s nothing you can do about it.

However, it’s not the events that determine your results in your life, it’s how you respond to those events.

If we determine that our current results are not what we really want, we need to decide what it is we really want! What does our ideal life look like – in all areas – 6 months from now, 5 years from now, 30 years from now? Why are we here? What do we enjoy doing?

If we were to remove all limitations – money, time, skills, knowledge, limiting relationships, perceived disabilities – what are our inner-most desires? This is the time to allow our imaginations to run wild!

Now that we know where we’re starting from, it’s important to understand that the results we’re getting originate with our current beliefs, which subsequently, cause our actions. Through the observation of our results, we can determine what it is that we believe.

I want to be clear: when I say “believe” I don’t mean what we say we believe or what we think we believe, but what we hold to be true in the deepest part of our subconscious minds….and these are things we may not even know are there!

For many of us, our limiting beliefs originated during a childhood event or pattern of events that made a huge impression on the way we view life. Even though these childhood experiences could seem relatively insignificant now, they impacted our belief system in such a way that we carry the remnants with us – it’s our “emotional baggage.” They shape our thinking, our confidence, our willingness to trust, our fears, our ability to relate to others.

It’s helpful during this phase to have some understanding of how our minds work.

It took years for our current programming and conditioning to become “locked” into our subconscious minds and therefore, it can take quite a bit of effort to let go of that programming. For many, it’s an ongoing and continual process and being dedicated to this process can be difficult and emotionally draining. However, I can assure you, the rewards are well worth the effort.

There is a deep and profound healing that can occur when we release all of that baggage we’ve been carrying around for so long. When you finally let go, the heart feels a little lighter, the sun feels a little warmer, the colors seem a little brighter. There are many ways to release the limiting beliefs that are holding us back from achieving what we really want in life and it can sometimes be a “trial and error” process to find the right fit for what works. Be committed to the process – no matter how long it takes.

Not only do we work with releasing our old beliefs and resolving past pain, we then begin to work on replacing them with new beliefs – ones that are in harmony with where we want to go and the life we want to build. This is the fun part! This is where we take what we ascertained during the “Evaluate” process and we use our imaginations to build beautiful pictures of our brighter future! This is where we rewire our thinking to allow for exciting new opportunities and awareness!

What actions have we taken in the past that have gotten us to where we are now? As noted under “Explore” our actions are aligned with what we believe, so if we say we’re going to become successful entrepreneurs, but we don’t really believe it, our actions (or lack thereof) will most likely keep us employed by someone else or unemployed altogether.

By analyzing our past or current actions, we can become aware of our deepest subconscious beliefs, which allows us to engage in a process of clearing our  negative programming.

Up to this point, we’ve looked at what’s going on in our minds with a little help from observing our results.  Now it’s time to look at what we need to do to begin moving toward what we really want – the “right” actions. This doesn’t mean we’re going to know every step we need to take to get from where we are to where we want to be (we can rarely see the entire path all at once). However, we can always see at least a step or two.

Martin Luther King Jr. stated “You don’t have to see the entire stair case. Just take the first step.”

Jack Canfield talks about driving from New York to California in the dark. You have your headlights on and you can’t see the entire trip. You can see only the next 200 feet. However, if you trust that the next 200 feet will unfold at the right time, you can make it all the way to your destination.

Taking action toward what we want is our “act of faith” and lets the universe know we’re serious. It will open the doors to allow our intuition to speak to and through us. New ideas will begin to flood our consciousness. New resources will become available. New relationships will manifest. Action is a MUST. The rest of this information is useless without it.

Are the actions we are taking producing the intended results? With each action, we receive feedback….from people, from the results we produce, and from our intuition.

Different people receive (or don’t receive) feedback in any number of ways. In order to make real progress, we need to pay close attention to what’s going on around us, first of all to simply notice the feedback when it arrives. Many times, we’re not paying attention and we totally miss it!

If and when we receive the information, we have a choice. We can either choose to ignore it (as some people do) or we can carefully consider its value. Sometimes, the feedback may provide a new direction or idea and sometimes, it may not be credible. We must be able to look at all feedback objectively.

With the data of our results and feedback in hand, now it’s time to make adjustments. We may need to adjust our actions, what we thought we wanted, or our beliefs. This is the time to re-evaluate what we’ve done thus far and make the “tweaks” necessary to continue on toward our vision – toward that which feels most fulfilling and valuable for us.

Make a committed decision to keep going – to do what it takes (without violating the rights of others) – to educate yourself – to do the inner work required – to invest – to take the next step.

Dr. Carole N. Hildebrande (Periodontologist and professor) tells us that committed decisions will show up in two places – our calendars and our checkbooks…..and that is so true! If you are seriously ready for personal or professional transformation, you will be willing to devote both time and financial investment towards your goals.

Once you make the decision – a committed decision – the resources to make it happen will become available… will find them.
